Males are normally smaller and have longer pectoral fins with a dark blotch at the top. Their pelvic (ventral) fins are more pointed.
Females are normally larger, duller colored and less contrasting, and have rounded pectoral fin. Their pelvic (ventral) fins are rounded to form a pouch for the eggs when spawning.
